What is a birthplace for every person?
What is a birthplace for every person? For me, it is a place where I was born. It is a place where all my relatives live and like living. It is a place where different events — happy and unhappy — take place. And finally it is a place that you can’t imagine your life without.
All my family lives in Vladimir. We are very happy and close together. My story is about my great-grandfather.
His name was Semjon Lazarev. He was born in 1918 in the town of Dnepropetrovsk in Ukraine. He was a student of Kharkov Railway Transportation institute. When the German fascists occupied Kharkov he joined the Red Army. Once a marshal came to his military unit to look for specialists who could drive steam locomotives. He had chosen my great-grandfather and sent him to Tashkent to study up. Then my great-grandfather and his family lost each other. His parents didn′t know where their son had been. They were very anxious about him. But in 1944 his mother heard information about Semjon by radio. The report information bureau had sounded the message:
«The machinist Semjon Lazarev has taken an echelon with shells to the front.» His mother was very happy. And then she began looking for him. She had been looking for him for more than half a year. She was asking a lot of people about her son. Nobody had met him. But suddenly a group of workers said that they had known him. They said: «We know him. He is the chief of our Depot. He has a wedding today». His mother came to the wedding ceremony and it was the best wedding gift for him. Everybody was very happy.
During the Great Patriotic War my great-grandfather worked very hard. He delivered different things to the front. For his labour he was awarded some medals and the Order «The Sigh of Honour».
Later he and his family came to Vladimir. He had been working as the Chief at Vladimir Railway Station for many years. He died in 1994.
This is the end of my story. I am very proud of my great-grandfather. I also want to be very useful for my country and for my native city Vladimir.
